Come to a Peace Corps Info Meeting!
Peace Corps will be visiting the SSU campus a few times this semester so you can get more information on applying to this incredible program! Below are the dates a representative will be on campus as well as special info meeting times. The first one is on Wednesday, September 23 – Tabling 11 – 1PM with an Info Meeting in IH 106 from 4-5pm. Peace Corps will also be at the annual Go Global! Study & Work Abroad Fair on Sept. 24 (see above!)

IEEC Takes Taco Tuesday!
IEEC will be going to Taco Tuesday this Tuesday, September 22nd! We will meet at the flagpole at 5:00PM and head over together! Sign up at the Center for International Education and take a look at our Facebook event.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK
Lobo’s Open Mic Night was an awesome opportunity to meet alumni, applicants, and international students. There was good food, music and conversation. We can’t wait to see you at the next one!
Another successful Coffee and Culture last week. Lot’s of fun and culture sharing. Thanks to everyone who made it! While there wont be one this week, the 24th, come to our next one on October 1st!
STUDY ABROAD & NATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE
Study Abroad Informational Meetings are Happening Now!
Interested in studying in another country or another state? Your first step is to come to an Info Meeting! Come sign- up in the Center for International Education. The meetings start on Monday, August 31st.
Meeting Days and Times:
MONDAYS @ 3:00- 4:00 PM
TUESDAYS @ 3:00 PM- 4:00 PM
WEDNESDAYS @ 1:00- 2:00 PM
THURSDAYS @ 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM
If you are a professor or a student who would like their class to learn more about different opportunities to study away, you can request a classroom presentation! All of our Go Global Ambassadors are either study abroad alumni, international students or NSE students and would love to talk about their experiences! Click here to request a presentation and allow at least one week ahead of time before the day of the presentation.
SSALI (Sonoma State American Language Institute)
Becky Petrow will have walk in hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-3 and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10-12 if you have any questions or things to discuss.
SSALI (Sonoma State American Language Institute) is looking for conversation partners!! Do you want to meet international students on campus and help them improve their English? You can come by our office (International Hall 107) to fill out the simple form!
SIT Study Abroad Scholarships
SIT Study Abroad is committed to increasing access to international education and to ensuring you have the information you need to successfully access funding for your study abroad program with us. We offer a broad range of scholarships and grants, including our award winning Pell Grant Match. Scholarship awards generally range from $500 to $5,000. For Programs beginning in the Spring the deadline is November 1st. For programs beginning in Summer 2015, application deadline will be on April 1; Fall 2015 program deadlines are May 15. Go Overseas Scholarship
Go Overseas is offering a $15,000 Scholarship to Study Abroad in New Zealand. The scholarship will go towards covering all accommodations and tuition. In addition, Round-trip flights will be covered by STA Travel and travel insurance covered by guard.me. Check out the link here. The deadline to apply is October 9th so gets your application in soon!
At STA Travel, we believe in making international travel more accessible to student and youth travelers. It’s a core value of our business, which is why we were thrilled to once again team up with the Foundation for Global Scholars (FGS) to help make students’ travel dreams a reality via the Start the Adventure Scholarship.
The STA Travel Start the Adventure timeline for students who will begin their study abroad programs between January and June 2016 is as follows:
Application Opens: Monday, October 12, 2015 (before 5 PM MDT)
Application Deadline: Friday, November 6, 2015, 5 PM MDT
Award Announced: Wednesday, December 30, 2015 (before 5 PM MDT, subject to change)

WORK, INTERN, VOLUNTEER ABROAD (WIVA)
Are you interested in working, interning, volunteering, or teaching abroad? The Center for International Education has hired someone to help you! Come in and visit the WIVA Programs Assistant to find out how you can get abroad. The opportunities are endless and there for you to take! Coffee and Culture Meetings
Join us at our weekly Coffee and Culture Meetings! IEEC holds Coffee and Culture every Thursday from 12 – 1 PM. What is Coffee and Culture you may ask? Coffee and Culture is a weekly event where we get together and share cultures, life experiences and just a place to hang out. We always meet in International Hall 107. For more information on activities and themes of each meeting, join the IEEC Facebook page.
There will be no meeting this week (September 24th) due to the Go Global! Study and Work Abroad Fair!
Join us at the Botanical Gardens
Join IEEC for a trip to visit the Quarryhill Botanical Garden in the small Sonoma town of Glen Ellen on September 27th! Stop by the Center for International Education to sign up for this event.
Quarryhill is a 25 acre botanical garden that features various flowering plants from East Asia, many of which are endangered. This makes the garden one of the world’s largest collection of documented, wild-collected Asian plants in the world!
Come out and join us for a trip to explore the beautiful gardens in Fall and beforehand we will pick up some snacks and lunch in the cute town of Glen Ellen 🙂
Admission to the garden is $5 for students, so be sure to bring your SSU student ID and some money for lunch. This event is for IEEC members; stop by the Center for International Education to join IEEC for $3.
