Taco Tuesday was quite a success. It was a night of tacos, margaritas and a lot of fun! We hope to see you next time.
GO GLOBAL! STUDY & WORK ABROAD FAIR
We had a great time this year at the Go Global! Study & Work Abroad Fair hosted by the SSU Center for International Education. It was a great opportunity to look into the different programs available here at Sonoma State. If you couldn’t make it, be sure to come into International Hall and we can give you all the information you need!

Study Abroad Informational Meetings are Happening Now!
Interested in studying in another country or another state? Your first step is to come to an Info Meeting! Come sign- up in the Center for International Education. The meetings start on Monday, August 31st.

TUESDAYS @ 3:00 PM- 4:00 PM
WEDNESDAYS @ 1:00- 2:00 PM
THURSDAYS @ 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM
If you are a professor or a student who would like their class to learn more about different opportunities to study away, you can request a classroom presentation! All of our Go Global Ambassadors are either study abroad alumni, international students or NSE students and would love to talk about their experiences! Click here to request a presentation and allow at least one week ahead of time before the day of the presentation.
Meet with the International Students Coordinator
Becky Petrow will have walk in hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-3 and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10-12 if you have any questions or things to discuss.
SSALI (Sonoma State American Language Institute) is looking for conversation partners!! Do you want to meet international students on campus and help them improve their English? You can come by our office (International Hall 107) to fill out the simple form!
SIT Study Abroad Scholarships
SIT Study Abroad is committed to increasing access to international education and to ensuring you have the information you need to successfully access funding for your study abroad program with us. We offer a broad range of scholarships and grants, including our award winning Pell Grant Match. Scholarship awards generally range from $500 to $5,000. For Programs beginning in the Spring the deadline is November 1st. For programs beginning in Summer 2015, application deadline will be on April 1; Fall 2015 program deadlines are May 15. STUDY IS ASIA
The Asia Institute has officially launched two new scholarships offered in collaboration with the Academy of International Business Southeast (AIB-SE) and the Pennsylvania Council for International Education (PaCIE). Both jointly developed scholarships will award $1000 to support learning experiences for students traveling to Asia in 2016. For more details, please see below:

Open To: Undergraduate, Graduate and PhD Candidates involved in Asia based study abroad programs
Deadline: October 15, 2015
- Pennsylvania Council for International Education Scholarships
Total Amount: $1000
Open To: Undergraduate and Graduate Students from universities and colleges in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania involved in Asia based study abroad programs
Deadline: February 1, 2016

Go Overseas Scholarship
Go Overseas is offering a $15,000 Scholarship to Study Abroad in New Zealand. The scholarship will go towards covering all accommodations and tuition. In addition, Round-trip flights will be covered by STA Travel and travel insurance covered by guard.me. Check out the link here. The deadline to apply is October 9th so gets your application in soon!
At STA Travel, we believe in making international travel more accessible to student and youth travelers. It’s a core value of our business, which is why we were thrilled to once again team up with the Foundation for Global Scholars (FGS) to help make students’ travel dreams a reality via the Start the Adventure Scholarship.
The STA Travel Start the Adventure timeline for students who will begin their study abroad programs between January and June 2016 is as follows:
Application Opens: Monday, October 12, 2015 (before 5 PM MDT)
Application Deadline: Friday, November 6, 2015, 5 PM MDT
Award Announced: Wednesday, December 30, 2015 (before 5 PM MDT, subject to change)

WORK, INTERN, VOLUNTEER ABROAD (WIVA)
Are you interested in working, interning, volunteering, or teaching abroad? The Center for International Education has hired someone to help you! Come in and visit the WIVA Programs Assistant to find out how you can get abroad. The opportunities are endless and there for you to take! Peace Corps will be visiting the SSU campus a few times this semester so you can get more information on applying to this incredible program! Below are the dates a representative will be on campus as well as special info meeting times. There is an Info Meeting in IH 106 from 4-5pm.

Coffee and Culture Meetings
Join us at our weekly Coffee and Culture Meetings! IEEC holds Coffee and Culture every Thursday from 12 – 1 PM. What is Coffee and Culture you may ask? Coffee and Culture is a weekly event where we get together and share cultures, life experiences and just a place to hang out. We always meet in International Hall 107. Join IEEC Team for Sonoma Serves
On October 17th, Sonoma State will be participating in the largest service event of the year. This one day event will take place at many locations from Petaluma to Santa Rosa. Sign up on OrgSync with our “International Squad” for a day of service and good fun.
IEEC Goes to Scandia
The IEEC invites you to an afternoon of mini golf, arcade games, and fun at the local Scandia Family Fun Center in Rohnert Park on Sunday, October 4th! Ticket prices have been REDUCED for IEEC members.** For $10, enjoy a game of mini golf, 1 ride, and 40 arcade game points! 🙂
We will be meeting at the flagpoles at 5:15pm and driving to Scandia together. Feel free to bring some extra cash for dinner afterwards–all that mini golf works up an appetite 🙂
Please sign up/pay for the event in the CIE office (International Hall 107), and let us know if you’d like to be a driver!
