Welcome back to Sonoma State! We can’t wait for another semester full of fun and adventure. We would also like to welcome all of the new students who have just arrived here. Feel free to stop by the office and say hello!

This week we will be holding a special Coffee and Culture hour in honor of the upcoming Superbowl 50! There will be games, traditional football snacks and much more. Check out the Facebook page for even more info and to RSVP.

Pack the Den!

Pack the Den

Come join IEEC as we go support and cheer on our basketball team at the biggest game of the year! The first 150 students at each game will win FREE school-spirited swag and a couple lucky fans will have chance to win prizes at halftime! This fun event is part of Lobo Fest! NSE Application Workshop

NSE Application Workshops have started! Please come into the office to sign up and start the next step in your Study Abroad process.

Study Abroad Informational Meetings are Happening Now!

Interested in studying in another country or another state? Your first step is to come to an Info Meeting! Come sign-up in the Center for International Education for the time that works best for you!
Meeting Days and Times:
MONDAYS @ 3:00- 4:00 PM
TUESDAYS @ 3:00 PM- 4:00 PM
WEDNESDAYS @ 1:00- 2:00 PM
THURSDAYS @ 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM

Classroom Presentations

If you are a professor or a student who would like their class to learn more about different study away opportunities, you can request a classroom presentation! All of our Go Global Ambassadors are either study abroad alumni, international students or NSE students and would love to talk about their experiences! Click here to request a presentation and allow at least one week ahead of time before the day of the presentation.

Come meet with the Study Away Coordinator: Hope now has drop-in hours!

Stop by the Center for International Education on Wednesdays from 12-1 if you would like to talk to Hope about any questions or concerns. No appointment necessary!

International Students

Meet with the International Students Coordinator

Becky Petrow will have walk in hours on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1-3 and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10-12 if you have any questions or things to discuss.

Sonoma State American Language Institute

SSALI (Sonoma State American Language Institute) is looking for conversation partners!! Do you want to meet international students on campus and help them improve their English? You can come by our office (International Hall 107) to fill out the simple form!

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

SIT Study Abroad Scholarships

SIT Study Abroad is committed to increasing access to international education and to ensuring you have the information you need to successfully access funding for your study abroad program with us. We offer a broad range of scholarships and grants, including our award winning Pell Grant Match. Scholarship awards generally range from $500 to $5,000. For programs beginning in Summer 2015, application deadline will be on April 1; Fall 2015 program deadlines are May 15. Go to http://studyabroad.sit.edu/pn/prospective-students/scholarships-and-financial-aid/ for more information.

WORK, INTERN, VOLUNTEER ABROAD (WIVA)

WIVAAre you interested in working, interning, volunteering, or teaching abroad? The Center for International Education has hired someone to help you! Come in and visit the WIVA Programs Assistant to find out how you can get abroad. The opportunities are endless and there for you to take! You can make an appointment in the Center for International Education or email her at wiva@sonoma.edu. Read more about WIVA by liking the WIVA Facebook Page.

WIVA Information Meetings will be running through May 13th at the following times:

Mondays: 1pm-2pm

Wednesday: 3pm-4pm

Come to a Peace Corps Info Meeting!

Peace Corps will be visiting the SSU campus a few times this semester so you can get more information on applying to this incredible program! There will be an information meeting on Wednesday, February 3rd in addition to tabling. Come to the meeting for more information and the chance to talk to Barbara Smith, an alumna of the Peace Corps and recruiter for Sonoma State.

Coffee and Culture Meetings

Join us at our weekly Coffee and Culture Meetings! IEEC holds Coffee and Culture every Thursday from 12 – 1 PM. What is Coffee and Culture you may ask? Coffee and Culture is a weekly event where we get together and share cultures, life experiences and just a place to hang out. We always meet in International Hall 107. For more information on activities and themes of each meeting, join the IEEC Facebook page.
