Join our Mentor Program

We will be continuing with out mentor program this semester. This program will connect students of all types. Whether an international student, study away applicant, or have just returned from time away, it is a great way to meet new people and share experiences.  Sonoma State Events

CEILIDH @7:30pm; Student Center Ballroom A
Join us for SSU’s very first Ceilidh! A ceilidh is an informal social gathering at which there is Scottish or Irish folk music and singing and folk dancing and even story telling.  Everybody is welcome at a ceilidh. It’s socially inclusive and breaks down barriers and builds bridges between participants. Try out the ceilidh experience for free on Thursday the 21st of April. 
Earth Week and the Scene It Big Screen Movies Presents: The Lorax

A 12-year-old boy searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world. Featuring the voices of Zac Efron, Taylor Swift and Danny DeVito
Thursday April 21st is Earth Day –  The day will begin with a bike energizer station from 8am-10am on the Pearson lawn!  If you choose to take alternative transportation to school you can be treated with free tea, coffee, Yerba Mate and snacks.
At 11am on the Darwin/Stevenson lawn there will be a number of interactive hands on activities led by students and community partners. Booths include: benefits of a plant-based diet, DIY household products, making “seed bombs”, how to compost, plant propagation, and many more! Community partners will include: Daily Acts, Sonoma Land Trust, Sonoma County Waste Agency, and more, all of which will allow students to explore the different avenues of sustainability that you can get involved in.
From 12-1 in the quad there will also be live music, and free yoga! All day long students will have the opportunity to come by the quad and donate to our E-waste drive and clothing drive. By participating in our events and booths you will be able to win fun prizes and get educated. NSE Application Workshops are continuing and applications are still being accepted! It’s never to late to apply! Please come into the office to sign up and start the next step in your study away process.

Interested in studying in another country or another state? Your first step is to come to an Info Meeting! Come sign-up in the Center for International Education for the time that works best for you!

Classroom Presentations

If you are a professor or a student who would like their class to learn more about different study away opportunities, you can request a classroom presentation! All of our Go Global Ambassadors are either study abroad alumni, international students or NSE students and would love to talk about their experiences! Click here to request a presentation and allow at least one week ahead of time before the day of the presentation.

International Students

Meet with the International Students Coordinator

Becky Petrow will have walk in hours on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1-3 and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10-12 if you have any questions or things to discuss.

Need a Car?

 

Sonoma State is now providing Zipcar services to students. This allows students to reserve a vehicle through the app and use the provided vehicles when needed. Internatizipcar-instructionsonal students are also qualified to participate in the program. Follow this link for more information and to get started on using this service!

Sonoma State American Language Institute

SSALI (Sonoma State American Language Institute) is looking for conversation partners!! Do you want to meet international students on campus and help them improve their English? You can come by our office (International Hall 107) to fill out the simple form!

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

GoOverseas.com Scholarships 

GoOverseas.com is currently offering two scholarships. One is for Study & Intern and the other is for Volunteer. Both scholarships offer $500 that can be used for any part of your time away. The deadline is May 6th so get your applications in now!

 STA Travel

STA Travel is offering scholarships up to $2500 for students studying abroad with the following five majors: photography, film, art, travel and tourism, and foreign language. Applications are always accepted so get yours in now!

HI USA

HI USA runs a number of hostels around the country. They are currently sponsoring a $2000 scholarships for your own international travel experience. This is not a study abroad specific scholarship and is available for anyone between the ages of 18 and 3o who will be traveling abroad. Check out their website for more information and how to apply.

CIEE Scholarships

The Council on International Educational Exchange offers opportunities for many different study abroad experiences and the chance to apply to a variety of scholarships. Check out their scholarship page to see if they have one for you. There are many options with different awards and deadlines.

WORK, INTERN, VOLUNTEER ABROAD (WIVA)

WIVAAre you interested in working, interning, volunteering, or teaching abroad? The Center for International Education has hired someone to help you! Come in and visit the WIVA Programs Assistant to find out how you can get abroad. The opportunities are endless and there for you to take! Coffee and Culture Meetings

Join us at our weekly Coffee and Culture Meetings! IEEC holds Coffee and Culture every Thursday from 12 – 1 PM. What is Coffee and Culture you may ask? Coffee and Culture is a weekly event where we get together and share cultures, life experiences and just a place to hang out. We always meet in International Hall 107. For more information on activities and themes of each meeting, join the IEEC Facebook page.

This week will be French themed! Come join us for some tasty french treats and a chance to hear about the culture there.
