International Student Coordinator
As the newest addition to the team at the Center for International Education at Sonoma State University (SSU), Becky Petrow provides both academic and immigration advising for international degree-seeking, exchange, and Semester at Sonoma students. A Sonoma County native, Becky left home and headed north to Arcata, CA where she attended Humboldt State University (HSU), studied abroad in France, and graduated in 2012 with BAs in International Studies and French. She is currently pursuing her MA in International Education online through the School for International Training (SIT). After graduation, Becky stayed at HSU to work with international students in the Center for International Programs for 3 years. When the time came, she was thrilled at the opportunity to move back to Sonoma County for the International Student Coordinator position at SSU. While she would love to do more international travel someday, she finds that the next best thing is working with international students in the U.S. where she can learn about the cultures of the world through the experiences of her students.

Hope Rayne Emry Ortiz was born and raised in Humboldt County, CA. She attended Sonoma State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology. While attending SSU, she studied abroad in Mexico for one year, completing a minor in Spanish. This experience along with the many other student leadership positions that she held at Sonoma, including EOP Summer Bridge Peer Leader, Orientation Peer Leader, and Freshmen Seminar Peer Mentor, lead her to pursue a career in student affairs. After graduating from SSU, she attended and graduated from San Diego State University with a Masters of Arts in Postsecondary Educational Leadership with a Specialization in Student Affairs. It was there that her interests in social justice, multicultural competency, assisting Veteran students, and increasing retention in underrepresented students thrived. She has now returned to Sonoma State and is excited to share her passion of education abroad with SSU Seawolves as the new International & Exchange Programs Advisor.
